Donald McFarlane is a father, husband, and graduate Electrical Engineer, who has trained in the fields of information security, risk management, and incident/emergency management. He works as an information security expert with nearly three decades of experience as a leader. He spent a decade serving as a volunteer EMT and EMS chief, and currently serves on the planning board in the town of Orange.

A resident of Orange since 2008, Donald is running to be your state representative for Grafton County’s District 18 (comprising the towns of Alexandria, Bridgewater, Bristol, Canaan, Dorchester, Enfield, Grafton, Groton, Hebron and Orange) because he wants to make sure that New Hampshire remains a place where families can live, learn, and thrive for generations to come.

Donald grew up splitting his time between the UK and USA, and became a permanent resident in 1995 after completing his studies and military service. He achieved his dream in 2002 of becoming a US citizen and has been giving back to his community ever since.

Donald and his wife Karen have been married since 2012 and have a rambunctious four year old son named Cameron and a Sheltie named Neep. You may have seen Karen around town in one of her roles as Orange’s town welfare officer or volunteering at the Friends of Mascoma food pantry in Canaan.

Issues

“I do not want to see families in New Hampshire being priced out of the state by rising costs of living - housing, food, electricity, fuel, taxes, etc. We need to work hard to keep taxes and inflation low and protect against government overreach. I am committed to fighting rising energy costs, improving education quality and options, and protecting our freedoms, including the 2nd Amendment.”

Your vote for Donald will be a vote for:
Lower Cost of Living

✔ No sales tax or income tax.
✔ A responsible and balanced budget in Concord.
✔ Energy policies which are realistic, focused on achievable goals, and fiscally prudent. In particular, Donald will focus on incentivizing longer-term decision-making, stable pricing, and a level playing field without subsidies for favored solutions.

“I will work to lower taxes and to combat inflation. New Hampshire citizens are struggling with sky-high prices for essentials like food, energy and prescription drugs. We need to increase energy production and incentivize the utilities to find ways to reduce costs.”

Educational Quality & Opportunities

✔ Respect for parental rights and educational choices for their children.
✔ Expanded school choice.
✔ A focus on improving educational quality and outcomes, and providing our children with additional opportunities to learn, train, and prepare for their future.
✔ Improved oversight of spending to prevent waste.

“Our education system is key to our society’s future. I will promote the best educational opportunities for our children, including expanding parental rights to make decisions regarding their children’s education, and will work to improve the quality of education across the state.”

Freedom & the 2nd Amendment

✔ Donald is for a constitutional, limited government.
✔ He will defend individual freedoms, including our right to keep and bear arms in defense of ourselves, our families, our property and our state.

“I will protect and uphold all our constitutional rights and freedoms, including the 2nd Amendment. I am a life member of several pro-gun organizations and have been a staunch defender of our second amendment rights for my whole life. I am proud to have received the highest possible rating for a non-incumbent from the NRA (AQ rating).”
